The volume is a special double issue (for April-September 1988, Vol.8, nos.2-3, 1988 ) of the Journal of Garden History. "In the second half of the 17th century garden design was amongst the most popular srtforms in England and Holland, yet it is a field neglected by modern historians..…Four introductory essays and more than 180 entries onpaintings, drawings, engravings, books, medals, botanical illustrations and garden furniture offer the reader insight into the design and style of garden art in this period, and elucidate its historical, art-historical and botanical context. Special emphasis is given to the reception of Dutch garden styles in England, and to the introduction of new botanical species in both countries. Very Good.
