London: John Lane, 1899. First edition. Hardback. 256pp plus plates. The cover of this issue of the Anglo-Saxon Review is modelled on Raderus' "Bavaria Pia" printed at Munich in 1628 and bound for Charles I., although it bears none of his special stamps. Green leather with detailed gilt floral arabesques to both boards around a Royal armorial ornament. Six compartment spine with gilt titles. Top edge gilt. Six illustrations (including frontispiece) with tissue guards. Decorated initials to chapters. Contributors to this edition include: Stephen Crane, David Hannay, Laurence Alma Tadema, Edmund Gosse, H. de Vere Stacpoole, and Sidney Low etc. Book in good condition. Corners and edges rubbed. Some rubbing and scuffing to spine & its extremities, which is also cracking at its front hinge. Virtually free of spotting. Stamp of Gloucester County Library to upper edge of front pastedown but no other traces of library ownership. A heavy book but no additional shipping costs to UK post codes.
