RARE copy of this early 20th century work on animal mechanics (anatomy), containing selections from the writings of Sir Charles Bell (1774-1842) and Dr. Jeffries Wyman (1814-1874), described as "memorable examples of careful observation, sound reasoning, and clear description of the objects of which they treat". Bell's work is subtitled "Proofs of design in the animal frame, the perfection of design in the bones of the head, spine, and chest, shown by comparison with architectural and mechanical contrivances". Dr. Wyman's part is subtitled "on the cancelled structure of some of the bones of the human body or of those bones which have a definite relation to the erect position which is naturally assumed by man alone".
