About This Item
Ash Tree Pr. First Edition. hardcover. Adrian, Jack [ed] : The Ash-Tree Press Annual Macabre 1998. Ashcroft (BC, CAN) : Ash-Tree Press, 1998. First edition, limited edition, one of 500 copies. ISBN 1899562621. Size is octavo (8vo), 8.375"/21.2cm h. Bound in publisher's burgundy cloth, gilt lettering imprinted to spine. B&w matte dj illus by Rob Suggs (with the title adding a touch of red). Red endpapers with subtly patterned "Ash-Tree Press" repeated throughout. Xvi pp prelim material, 82 numbered pp, six wo numbers following, including colophon and (helpfully), a three page list of Ash-Tree Press "Titles Published" 1994-1998, including forthcoming titles. Editor's introduction, six tingly tales, sources and acknowledgements. Condition notes: A lovely, clean, tight, square, unmarked copy of a handsomely bound, chilling anthology. A few flecks to the cloth. Of this collection, the dustwrapper says "...the focus is on half a dozen authors whose names are not inevitably associated with the tale of the supernatural." Indeed: the storytellers are W. Somerset Maugham, E.C. Bentley, Hillaire Belloc, Arthur Ransome, Ford Madox Ford, and John Buchan. All great stories. We personally inspect every book we offer.
