Macmillan, 1974. Soft cover. Very Good. 1924 pages (2" thick), with index to authors, titles and first lines. Selections from Capt. John Smith through Walt Whitman. Trade paperback (5-1/2" x 8-1/2"), black pictorial wraps with slight shelf wear, wraps curling away from text block a bit, crease to front right lower corner, 1/4" tear in top edge of front cover, edges a bit smudged. Underscoring of a few items in the Table of Contents by former owner Prof. Warner Berthoff, no other markings observed to the clean and bright pages.
