About This Item
New York, NY: Alfred A. Knopf, Publisher , 1920 Alfred A. Knopf, Publisher, New York. 1920. Hardcover. First Edition (SD). Retired public library copy. Book is tight, square, and unmarked but for library stamps to textblock top and bottom, title page, copyright page, and endpapers. Book Condition: Good; light wear to head, tail, and tips; index label on spine; several torn page bottoms that were not cut at publication. No DJ. Brown cloth boards and spine with green lettering on the spine and front board with blue decoration. 181 pp 8vo. Howe wrote about the small towns of middle America in his fiction as well as his magazine E.W. Howe’s Monthly. His quaint tales of small-town life provide a brilliant snapshot of a time and place we often too-quickly label “simpler.” This book was a lampoon of Sherwood Anderson's book, Winesburg, Ohio, only using humorous character portraits from small towns. A clean presentable copy.
