About This Item
Philadelphia: J.B. Lippincott Company, 1949. Hardcover. Small 4to.Blue and brown cloth. xi, 255pp. Illustrations, figures. Very good. Mild binding edgewear. A tight and nice early printing of this standard study. Front flyleaf bears inked ownership signature of Roy C. Avery (1885-1971), a Canadian-born molecular biologist who taught at Vanderbilt Medical School from 1931 to 1953; his brother, the noted medical researcher Oswald T. Avery (1877-1955), is cited on page 25 of this volume. Below this is a nonauthorial inscription from unknown person to noted pediatric infectious disease professor and medical history collector Ralph C. Gordon, and below this is tipped a J.B. Lippincott business card. Interesting copy.
