Bound in full contemporary vellum, hand-written titles on spine, engraved frontispiece. (xvi), 496, (64-Index), vi, 165, (2-index)(i-advert). Adriaan Reland (also known as Adriaen Reeland/Reelant, Hadrianus Relandus) (1676-1718) was a noted Dutch Orientalist scholar, cartographer and philologist. Even though he never left the Netherlands, he made significant contributions to Middle Eastern and Asian linguistics and cartography, including Persia, Japan and the Holy Lands. Preface by Johannes Buddeus. This work was first published in Utrecht in 1708. Bound with Diatriba de Anno & Mense Natali Jesu Christi by Petro Allix, S.T.P. (1722). Pierre Allix (1641-1717) was a French Protestant pastor and author who was created Doctor of Divinity by Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and was given the treasurership. He discovered that Codex Ephraemi is a palimpsest. This book was first published in London in 1707. [Graesse VI, 75][ADB XXVII, 544f].. Former owner's names on ffep and title page, hand-made tab neatly attached at beginning of Diatriba, vellum at top of rear exterion hinge separating, else near fine; tight, square, and clean.
