Later reback in tan leather with gilt lettering and six raised bands to the spine, very good, strong. Original endpapers retained, with some pencil notes and tipped in catalogue entries for this title, the end papers little damaged & water stained to the bottom margin. Some damp staining to the title page and frontispiece of vol. I and a few other preliminary pages, generally good, variable damp staining to the bottom edge of vol. II with some associated cockling of bottom margin, but generally good. Plates very good. Provenance: with the bookplates of William Fermor of Tusmore, Oxfordshire, and the Barons Holland of Holland House. The first edition of 1656 was considered a landmark in British topography, and this 1730 edition is regarded as the best edition. A good to very good copy..
