About This Item

London: Elkin Mathews, 1916. First paperback edition, first printing. This is a good copy. Unfortunately, the front panel is detached from the spine. Otherwise, this is a rather clean copy with very little foxing (as common on this title) present. Printed on wove paper, Binyon has warmly inscribed to fellow poet and international scholar Carl Kjersmeier, reading: 'To Carl Kjersmeier fraternal greeting from Laurence Binyon. Dec 1916'. Inscribed in the year of publication, this is a rather fine presentation copy from poet to poet. The text blocks are clean and the internals equally so. Overall, this is a good copy.

Marked by many as a follow-on from his eternal poem 'For the Fallen', The Anvil is peppered with allusions to war and its causes.
