First American Edition of an important source for the revolutionary period. Madame Roland ardently enlisted in the cause of the Revolution in its early stages and her salon became the rendezvous of the Girondist party. In 1793, she was imprisoned and sentenced to death by the Jacobins. Before her execution, she uttered her famous last words "O Liberty! what crimes are committed in thy name!"
