Madang: Kristen Pres, 1996. 67pp, 25 bw ills, 4 maps, bibliography, chronology. Pictorial card. Near new. Otto Finsch was a famous ethnographer who recorded the traditional life of the people. He praised them for their resilience and high moral sense, but found them ready to settle disputes with weapons. He challenged the term contented people used by the Russian, Miklouho Maclay, to describe them. This work taken from his diary. He visited Madang and raised the German flag there in 1884..
