About This Item

This paper is the stenographic report on the Argument of Hon. J. B. Foraker in Answer to Hon. Theodore Horstman, Corporation Counsel, in support of House Bill No. 1113, commonly known as the Graft Bill, in the Senate Chamber at Columbus, Ohio, on the evening of February 8, 1893, before the Hamilton County delegation and other members of the General Assembly.

The booklet, which measures approxomately 6 x 9 inches, contains 60 pages of text relating the questions, answers, comment, statements, etc. of both Governor Foraker and any of those attending this meeting. The apparent purpose of the meeting was to discuss the proposed bill that would cover all sorts of matter regarding the introduction of tracked transit lines in Cincinnati and its relationship to similar tracked transport lines in Cleveland.

The booklet is staple-bound and does not have a cover. The pages are lightly tanned, but the text is clear and easily read. There are some markings on the front page indicating the prior ownership by the Western Reserve Historical Society of Cleveland. The overall condition of the booklet is good.

The illustrations accompanying this description show the first page of the booklet and a typical 2-page spread of questions and answers.

Joseph Benson Foraker (July 5, 1846 – May 10, 1917) was an American politician of the Republican Party who served as the 37th governor of Ohio from 1886 to 1890 and as a United States senator from Ohio from 1897 until 1909. [Wikipedia]
