This is a nicely bound antique book of exploration, "Around the Caribbean & Across Panama" by Francis C. Nicholas. 1903 1st edition; H.M. Caldwell Company; Boston and New York. Nicely illustrated with "numerous maps and half-tones from rare photographs." Gilt top page edges.

Condition:
Clean front cover; small stain spot at the bottom edge of the back cover; there are patches on the spine where the cloth color has faded (these areas aren't stains). Sharp cover corners. Small cloth tears at the spine corners. Scuffing to the gilt top-stain. Tight binding with no loose pages. Crack at the front hinge between the half title page and frontispiece (despite the crack, the front cover is firmly attached and is not shaky). Occasional light stains and smudges to the pages. Page 233 has a large 4" tear that extends diagonally upwards from the inner edge, as well as a large horizontal tear at the bottom from the outer edge to the spine. The front pastedown has an ID label, an ex-libris label, an ink name stamp, and a name/provenance written in pen. The rear pastedown has faint pencil writing at the upper-inner corner. The rear end paper & pastedown have faint outlines of what appear to be labels that had been affixed, then removed. Overall the book is in Good- condition.
