Limited first edition. Foreword by Kenneth M. Johnson. A young New York doctor's account of his 194 day voyage around Cape Horn, mainly drawn from his letters to friends and his journal. Among the other 96 passengers were Mark Hopkins, J. Ross Browne, and A.S. Marvin, who went on to co-found Marvin & Hitchcock, the prominent San Francisco booksellers. In his later life, Stillman became an important figure in the development of Southern California's wine industry. An attractive production illustrated with a frontispiece portrait, a map on the front endpapers, and drawings and engravings from the collections of the San Francisco Maritime Museum, the Peabody Museum, and the Bancroft Library of the University of California. Number 451 of 1950 individually numbered copies. 92 pp.
