Edinburgh: David Douglas, 1887.. First edition. 8vo. xii, 186, (2) pp. Publisher's illustrated boards sympathetically rebacked preserving much of the original spine, top edge gilt, label with a gift inscription dated 1949 to the front pastedown, this mounted over an earlier bookplate partially visible underneath. 20 photographic plates plus 10 diagrams in the text. Some foxing to the boards and the fore and lower edges of the text block, the contents generally very good, light wear to the edges of the boards. A classic work, featuring some of the earliest photographic illustrations of golf shots and swings. Simpson was one of Robert Louis Stevenson's closest friends, and was immortalised as "the Cigarette" in "The Inland Voyage". Donovan and Murdoch, 3860.
