Shelton: Printed at the Examiner Office, Niles' Bank [1846] 72pp This little handbook was published by the Potters' Printing Society; the author William Evans was the Trades Union leader of that day Designed for master potters; it covers the history of fine pottery; descriptions of the materials, formulas and processes of the manufacture of china and earthenware; an appendix containing "The Recipe Book of Bailiff Thomas", "The Recipe Book of Bailiff John" The owner of this book Enoch Thomas was a master potter for Staffordshire Potteries, England His signature on the front pastedown page "Enoch Thomas, Hanley Staffordshire Potteries, England" His signature on the rear pastedown page "Enoch Thomas, St Louis MO, America" Enoch Thomas was one of the many potters emigrating in the late 1840's-1850's from England to America He took his recipe book with him Sm 8vo Green cloth with gold titles on the spine Corner tips bumped, minor fraying upper edge of spine, small spots and soiling on covers; interior clean and unmarked, some pages are missing the upper corner tips Very Good+ hardcover.
