Portraits are in outstanding condition./None.. The young Morton was a member of a Nashville militia unit that, when the War began, became part of the famed First Tennessee Infantry. Morton gained a captaincy (supposedly the youngest captain in Confederate service) and served under Nathan Bedford Forrest as his chief of artillery. The book contains a discussion of nearly all the battles Forrest fought. After the War, Morton earned his medical degree and also headed the Tennessee section of the Ku Klux Klan where he brought Forrest into the ranks of the organization.
