William Heinemann, 1936. Hardcover. Acceptable. 1936. Pocket Edition. 304 pages. No dust jacket. Green cloth. Moderate tanning, with light foxing and marking to pages. Heavy tanning to text block edges. Cracking to front hinge, with tanning to pastedowns and endpapers. Boards have moderate shelf wear, with rubbing and marking. Light bumping to corners and crushing to spine ends. Book has noticeable forward lean. Boards are slightly bowed with tanning to spine.
Synopsis
W. Somerset Maugham was born in Paris in 1874. He began to study medicine in London but quit to focus exclusively on writing. In 1926 he bought a house in Cap Ferrat, France, which was to become a meeting place for a number of writers, artists and politicians. He died in 1965.
