Some items signed in fountain pen, others in pencil. Many musical notations in Savitt's hand added to the scores. I have no way of knowing if any of these are complete scores, so it's probably best to consider all of the titles as fragments. Organist and composer Heinrich Christoph Zeuner (1795-1857) was born in Saxony but spent most of his career in Boston, where he was associated with the Handel and Haydn Society from 1830 to 1837, and then Philadelphia, where he was organist first at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and later at Arch Street Presbyterian Church. Extremely scarce. In Good+ Condition: wrappers are lightly soiled and separating along the spines; old dampstaining in Part I, primarily along upper edge of pages, and in Part II along gutter; a few pencil marks in margins; otherwise, clean and solid.

Spine is gilt in compartments; boards are richly gilt with floral borders. The binding is well preserved with only minor spots of wear. All edges of the book block are gilt. The extra engraved title is tightly trimmed with no outer margin. Interior pages contain occasional mild marginal spotting but are otherwise generally clean. Lucan’s epic poem "Pharsalia" (written during the reign of Nero) concerns the Roman Civil War between Julius Caesar and Pompey. In 48 b.c.e the conflict came to a conclusion with Pompey’s defeat on the Thessalian plains of Pharsalus. The poem then extends down to the capture of Egyptian Alexandria.
