Book Description
From the Preface:
"It is the author's intention in this volume to present his city to the executives of American business. My hope is that the reader will look upon the facts presented as conservative statements, for they are conservative.
"It is my hope that the reader will study these facts with his own business interests in mind—for my city, Atlanta, is Distribution City to the South, and as such is of utmost importance to American business. And it is my further hope that the facts will be of assistance to the reader in placing an exact valuation upon Atlanta, as part of his business planning."
About the Author, adapted from Wikipedia:
Ivan Allen Sr. (1876–1968) was co-founder of the Ivan Allen Company, an office supply and furniture store that, by 1925, twenty-five years after its founding, had about fifty employees and was one of Atlanta's best-known businesses. Allen was a leading civic leader who was a founding member of the Atlanta Rotary Club, served as president of the new Atlanta Convention Bureau (1913–1917), president of the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce (1917), two years as senator in the Georgia state legislature (1918–1919), and was the treasurer of the Georgia Democratic Party in 1936. In an effort to attract northern capital to Atlanta, Allen Sr. headed the Atlanta chamber's "Forward Atlanta" booster campaign (1926–1929), a strategy that would lure almost 700 new businesses to Atlanta. Ivan Allen Sr.'s only son, Ivan Allen Jr., followed in his father's footsteps as a leading civic and business leader in Atlanta and served as the city's mayor from 1962 to 1970.
