About This Item

London: Swan Sonnenschein & Co., 1889. Small folio, pp iv, 117 plus 115 plates [numbered 1 - 98, + bis plates numbered 3*, 20*, 20**, 21*, 29*, 33*, 37*, 52*, 53*, 54*, 55*, 56*, 61*, 61**, 61***, 66*, 66**, 72*], slight foxing and marking internally, occasionally a suggestion of darkening round the plate margins, plate 9 is marked and oxidised around the margins, one internal hinge cracking a little, original red and green cloth, a little scuffed and worn, the lower joint splitting but still sound, the upper joint with a small split. An owner's tiny stamp on the front endpaper - "Horace W. Sanders". [A publisher's note explains that the authors "Illustrations of the Fossil Conchology of Great Britain and Ireland" had already become extremely rare, and it was decided to re-issue the illustrations as engravings made from the original steel plates. In its turn, this work has now perhaps become equally rare.]. First Edition thus. Cloth. Good.
