About This Item

New York, NY W.W. Norton & Company, 1997. Hardcover First Edition (1997), so stated. First Printing indicated by a complete numerical sequence. INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY THE GENERAL EDITOR William E. Riebsame. First Edition (1997), so stated. First Printing indicated by a complete numerical sequence. Very Good in Very Good DJ: The Book shows moderate shelving wear along the bottom edges of the boards and just a hint of wear to the head of the backstrip; a tiny, superficial ding at the bottom edge of the rear panel; the boards are very sligfhtly bowed; a very faint dampstain at the upper corner of the rear panel, near the head of the backstrip; the binding is square and secure; the text is clean. Free of any creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Free of any underlining, hi-lighting or marginalia or marks in the text. Free of any ownership names, dates, addresses, notations, inscriptions, plates, or labels. A handsome copy, tightly bound, showing mild wear and minor, unobtrusive imperfections. Not far from 'As New'. The DJ shows very mild rubbing and a small dampstain at the head of the backstrip; else flawless; price unclipped; mylar-protected. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. Folio. (12.25 x 9.35 x 0.8 inches). 192 pages. Profusely illustrated in color. James J. Robb, Director of Cartography. Essays by Patricia Nelson Limerick and Charles Wilkinson. Photographs by Peter Goin. Language: English. Weight: 42.8 ounces. A Project of the University of Colorado, Boulder Center of the American West. Hardback with DJ. One of the best introductions to social, economic and environmental trends taking place in the Western United States. The graphs and photos highlight the new trends from water usage to ethic population patterns. The 7 chapters and two essays provide telling examples of how communtities are adapting to the changes (or not adapting in some cases). The work is footnoted to provide jumping off points for more research. Also, I found the quotes that are placed throughout the margins of the text to be extremely insightful. The book shines at showing how the West is moving away from a culture of exploiting natural resources for basic industry and instead exploiting the natural beauty to draw ever increasing numbers of residents and visitors. INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY THE EDITOR.
