New York: The Viking Press, 1972. First US Edition/First Printing. Hardcover. Poor/Good. By the author of Stoner and Butcher's Crossing. In magenta boards and green spine cloth with gilt. An ex-library copy with tape to top and bottom of frnt board and across rear board. Rubbing through paper of board ends at top corners and bottoms edges. Stamps to top and bottom page ends and small stain to top page ends near spine. Sticker to ffep and pocket to half-title page. Spine slightly cocked and pages fairly clean with a few smudges/spots hear and there. Binding solid. Jacket is unclipped($7.95) with sticker removal scar to bottom of spine and small nick, with a few small punctures towards top of spine. Some creasing to jacket as well. Winner of the 1973 National Book Award.
Synopsis
John Williams (1922-1994) was born and raised in northeast Texas. He published two volumes of poetry and two other novels, Butcher's Crossing and Stoner . In the past year, Stoner has become an international best seller. Both novels are available from NYRB Classics. Daniel Mendelsohn is a translator, critic, memoirist, and classicist. He is the author of the international best seller, The Lost: A Search for Six of Six Million , and his essay collection Waiting for the Barbarians (NYRB) was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and the PEN Art of the Essay Award. He teaches at Bard College.
