About This Item

Boston: Roberts Brothers, 1874. Very good plus.. First edition of the third volume in Alcott's series of short stories for children, told from her nickname "Aunt Jo" that also refers to her beloved heroine in LITTLE WOMEN. "Jo" was Alcott's own alter ego, and many of her publications use this name for her. The third of six collections of short stories from AUNT JO'S SCRAP-BAG, this one includes "Cupid and Chow-Chow," "Huckleberry," "Nelly's Hospital," "Grandma's Team," "Fairy Pinafores," "Mamma's Plot," "Kate's Choice," "The Moss People," "What Fanny Heard," and "A Marine in Merry-Making." A wonderful mix of Victorian fantasy and girlhood. 16mo, 6.25'' x 4''. Original green cloth, spine stamped in gilt. Brown coated endpapers. Illustrated with black-and-white wood engravings. Publisher's ads at front and rear. viii, 209, [1], [6] pages. Small spot to rear board, else just light rubbing. Firm.
