About This Item
Currey O'Neil, South Yarra, 1983. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Very Good. Illustrator: Photographic. 256 pages, end page maps, index. All the pages are illustrated with black-and-white photographs culled from sources both obscure and contemporary. Black-and-white illustrated dust jacket. Research of the pictures was done by Jane Fenton, although there is no indication that she was involved in any of the text accompanying each photograph. Published near the time of the bicentenary of white settlement, this book mirrors the story of ordinary Australians, of people in power and of climactic events. Through the camera we can look back at the times of early settlement, the violent suppression of the Aborigines, convict times, the gold rushes and the great period of exploration, the growth of transport and farming, towns and cities and the world of boom and bust, bosses and unions, war and politics, to the present. The photographs are accompanied by a brilliant text which explains the life of Australia as revealed by the indelible images of our past. -- front fold over blurb. slight rubbing of the heel of the spine from self contact, no other damage to describe. No annotations. Size: 4to 9¾" - 12" tall. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Illustrator: Photographic. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: 1-2 kilos.
