London: William Heinemann Ltd., 1930. Hardcover. very good. 1st UK Edition. [x], 370pp. Octavo. Maroon cloth covered boards with slight soiling and mild wear to corners. Light bumping to back outer corner. Blindstamped rule border to front board and blindstamped publisher's insignia to back. Gilt lettering to spine. Outer edges of textblock show some soiling and light foxing. Light soiling and rippling to endpapers. Light foxing scattered through out. Small tear to page 51. 10 B/W illustrations on plates. In dust jacket, not price clipped. Jacket shows some soiling as well as a few small closed tears and chips near edges (there is also a chip in the center of the spine). Slight crease to inner flap of jacket. Generally a very nice copy. very good First edition. 108 in Wells Society "The story tells how a history don at Oxford falls asleep during a seance and dreams he had become Lord Paramount of the Empire. Among the characters is a thinly-disguised caricature of Winston Churchill.". Assisted pictorially by Well's friend and celebrated British cartoonist David Low. 1930
