About This Item
1960. On US Surpeme Court stationary. Dated September 17, 1960. To A.H. Whitelaw. In reference to Professor Harold Laski. Envelope also handwritten. "Of course I shall be glad to talk to the Guggenheim Foundation, when asked, how highly I value an illuminating exposition of Harold Laski as Teacher and the relevance of such a study to an examination of many educational problems - indeed its bearing on the function of university education. Good luck to you! I don't seem to be able to lay my hands on his letters. I wonder if I gave them to K. Martin. I'll search some more. Yours sincerely, Felix Frankfurter" Vienna-born Frankfurter had served as an assistant to New York lawyer Henry L. Stimson from 1906-1909 and to Secretary of War Stimson (1911-1913). He taught at Harvard Law School from 1914 until 1939, when he was appointed Associate Justice of the Supreme Court by President Franklin D. Roosevelt and served as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court until his retirement in 1962. . Document. Fine.
