About This Item

Matières: I). Salonique. 1). Journal de Loti. 2). A William Brown. 3). Loti à Plumkett. 4). Plumkett à Loti. II). Solitude. 1). Loti à William Brown. 2). Karaueuz. 3). Loti à sa soeur. 4). Loti à Plumkett. 5). A Loti, de sa soeur. III). Eyouba a deux.1). Loti à sa soeur. 2). A loti, de sa soeur. 3). Conclusion. Pierre Loti (pseudonym of Julien Viaud (1850 - 1923) was a French novelist and naval officer. In 1876 fellow naval officers persuaded him to turn into a novel passages in his diary dealing with some curious experiences at Istanbul. The result was the anonymously published 'Aziyadé' (1879), part romance, part autobiography, like the work of his admirer, Marcel Proust, after him. Pierre Loti's 'Aziyade' is a significant piece of gay literature for its courage in depicting male same-sex desire in a non-homophobic and sympathetic manner, even in the face of the French scientific community's homophobic assertions. Using the pen name Pierre Loti, Julien Viaud used an innovative form in presenting the work, employing a group of writings, diary entries and letters written by and to a young British naval officer, Harry Grant. 312 pag. Dix-huitième édition. Demi-cuire / marblé. Bel exemplaire.. 18cmx11,5cm.
