About This Item

London & Oxford: James Parker and Co., 1898. Cloth. Very Good Indeed. 6" by 5". Not Stated. A lovely pocket-sized guide to Gothic architecture, lavishly illustrated throughout and penned by a prolific architectural author. Gothic architecture was popular in Europe between the late twelfth century and the sixteenth century, and it was followed by Renaissance architecture. It is characterised by pointed arches and flying buttresses, and is seen in particular in churches, cathedrals and abbeys. The movement was revived again in the nineteenth century.John Henry Parker (1806-1884) was an English archaeologist and author on many works relating to architecture. This is the tenth edition of this work.Bound with four pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear.Profusely illustrated throughout with vignette illustrations. In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally very smart, minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine, which is a little faded. Ownership bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally firmly bound, pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed
