About This Item
Paris: Flammarion, 1932. First edition. Paperback. Very Good. 11" by 9.5". Nathalie Parain. A first French edition of this illustrated Russian folk tale of Baba Yaga, retold by Rose Celli. In the publisher's original pictorial paper wraps. 8 full page colour illustrations and further colour illustrations in the text. Collated complete. The folk tale of Baba Yaga retold by Rose Brua Celli (1895-1982). Baba Yaga is a supernatural being, usually in the form of an old woman, from Slavic folklore. Rose Brua Celli was a French author and translator, best known as an author of children's stories. She was one of the founders of the Père Castor collection published by Flammarion, which includes this book. This story, and other children's stories in the Père Castor collection, were illustrated by Nathalie Parain (1897-1958), who was a Russian illustrator in the Russian Constructivist spirit. In the publisher's original pictorial paper wraps. Externally smart, though somewhat soiled and bumped to the extremities, as is usual with paper wraps. A couple of small closed tears to the front of the wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally clean, though a little age toned, with the odd handling mark. Very Good
