A first English edition of the fourth Babar book by Jean de Brunhoff, a colourfully illustrated work concerning Babar's friend Zephir. The first English edition of this work in the publisher's original quarter cloth binding with pictorial boards and illustrated end papers. Jean de Brunhoff (1899-1937) was a French writer and illustrator, best remembered for creating the Babar series of children's books. These delightful tales concerning a very civilised elephant were continued by his son, Laurent de Brunhoff. This is the fourth of Jean de Brunhoff's Babar books, in which Babar's friend Zephir has an adventure in the summer holidays. There have been major exhibitions of the work of Jean and Laurent de Brunhoff in Paris, the United States, Japan, and Canada, among others. Collated, complete. In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding with pictorial boards. Externally, sound with marks to the boards and shelf wear to the extremities causing some loss to the paper to the corners.
