DJ has shelf-wear present to the DJ extremities (DJ lightly chipped and worn at the extremities). Bound in red cloth boards with titles present to the spine and front board. Boards have light shelf-wear present to the extremities. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. This is the World War I story of LT Frank Luke, Jr. , America's second ace with 18 victories and the pilot Luke AFB in Arizona is named for. Nicknamed "The Arizona Balloon Buster," he was born in Phoenix, AZ and enlisted in the U. S. Army in September 1917, learned to fly and arrived on the front in France in July 1918 where he was assigned to the 27th Aero Squadron. In September 1918, He began a personal campaign against German observation balloons and airplanes. At sunset on Sept. 29, 1918, he took off for his usual attack/strafing runs and was downed/killed by German fire. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
