London: Faber and Faber, 1968. Book. Very Good. Cloth. First Edition.. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Dark brown cloth with titles in gilt on spine. Condition: Very good, binding sound, text clean apart from a small smudge mark to fep, no inscriptions. Dustjacket condition: Fair, generally shelfworn and lightly soiled, with an old repair to a 3in. tear at the top of the front cover. Not price-clipped. 192pp. 18 b/w plates and 9 line drawings. The author was head gardener at the gardens at Pitt White, Uplyme, Devon, and at the time of writing had in his care perhaps the most comprehensive collection of hardy bamboos in Europe. This book was the first of its kind to deal with the full range of bamboos hardy in temperate climates. In it the author gives a straightforward consistent description of the features of each species. The cultivation and propagation of bamboos, and their potential for all types of gardens, are fully discussed. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
