About This Item

Los Angeles, Cal.: Sanderson-Whitten Company. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1901. Hardcover. Contents include: A Terrible Temptation / F.C. Burnand -- George de Barnwell / William M. Thackeray -- A prophetic account of a grand natural epic poem, to be entitled "The Wellingtoniad," and to be published A.D. 2824 (November 1824) / Thomas B. Macaulay -- St. Twel'mo; or, The Cuneiform Cyclopedist of Chattanooga / John Paul -- Lessons in Biography / Rev. John Beresford --John Jenkins; or, The Smoker Reformed / Bret Harte -- Ho-Fi of the Yellow Girdle / T.T.T -- Walton Redivivus, a New River Eclogue / Thomas Hood. Red cloth, white spine label, frontispiece and the occasional additional illustration on plates. [A hard-to-find title, with some bibliographical oddities. It appears to be a low budget reprint of a volume in the 1870s Treasure Trove Series. The same publisher created another title Half Hours with Great Humorists listing the same authors. Also, the word Authors is taken from the spine; it does not appear at all on the title page. OCLC reports three volumes in series, and but five holdings of this title, none of which are close to the Bancroft Library.] ; 5" x 7-1/2"; 238 pp; Covers lightly soiled and edgeworn, solid hinges, endpapers soiled, paper quite toned, pages clean and unmarked. .
