Toronto: Reginald Saunders, 1940. Undetermined. very good. 1st Canadian Edition, First impression. viii, [2], 169 pp. Octavo. Teal cloth with gilt lettering on spine and front cover (Reginald Saunders on bottom of spine which differentiates the external appearance from that of the US version). Light bumping to ends of spine. Slight darkening and foxing to endpapers. Missing half title and pages 3-6, 55-62, 87-95 and 103-108 which were removed by Service himself as discussed in the inscription (the first group of page was roughly cut out while the others were torn, leaving some of the other pages loose or with small tears). Clean text block. In dust jacket (red with black and white illustration and lettering). Jacket is rubbed with chipping and small closed tears to edges. Not price clipped. Light soiling to back of jacket- some minor professional restoration has been done to dust jacket to prevent additional chipping. A very interesting copy. very good Inscribed on the front free endpaper by Service (in black ink). Inscription reads "To Rexforde and Marjorie Sharp- this mutilated book with deep regret I tore out some pages- Kindest regards and best wishes, Cordially Robert Service" A24 a. 2. (pp. 158) in Mitham. Includes "Five Frivolous Songs" from Twenty Bath-Tub Ballads. Many of these ballads were written during the previous decade. "The Ballad of Touch-the-Button Nell" (formerly "The Ballad of Riley Dooleyvitch" was earlier excluded from Ballads of a Cheechako (1909) due to its moral tone. 1940
