. None 11 x 14.5 x 2 inches Volume. Very Rare Edition. Contains two letters from the Author to H. Reinhardt, Esq. - the person he gives this book to - who purchased a painting by Corot. The book author discussed the painting purchased. First Edition. Hardcover. Decorative brown cloth, small illustration in black and gilt on the front, gilt lettering to front cover and spine, top edge gilt. decorative endpapers, Includes illustrations on plates with guards and additional small illustrations within text.; pages are generally clean though a few small spots can be observed, no foxing. Binding is tight and secure. 130 illustrations glued in by hand as well as lithographs. Book was limited to 200 copies, this volume is number 121, initialed by author. There are two penned inscriptions: “With the Authors Compliments. D. Croal Thompson, July 9, 1913” And “A Souvenir also of an evening that will live long in our memories. D. Croal Thompson, Alice M. Thompson. May 8th, 1914”. Also included in this volume is an added page opposite the title page. It is a letter with what appears to be an albumen photograph of the painting Le Soir by J.B.C. Corot - the letter describes the painting and is signed D. Croal Thompson July 18, 1913. Also in the book is a loose letter From the French Gallery in London addressed to H. Reinhardt, Esq. containing the message that this book is being sent as a congratulation to H. Reinhardt, Esq. on the purchase of the painting Le Soir and is signed by D. Croal Thompson, dated 9th, July, 1913 Wednesday. This is an incredible link of provenance not only for the book but for the painting as well. A very special book to be sure. This book was professionally treated for book worm because there are a couple holes in the spine and end papers and index were noted. Front inside cover has a few short book worm trails.
