About This Item
350 pages. Octavo (8 1/4" x 5 3/4") bound in original publisher's blue clot with silver lettering to spine in original pictorial wrappers. First edition.
Back to the West Virginia coal country of Fools' Parade (1969) and this time it's a strike-bound town with hunger and despair and sperrit writ on every piece of scrip. This along with the sentimentality (""Where does it end?"" ""It's bigger than that"") and sensuality (embarrassing) is the kind of hard-hollering melodrama one expects from Mr. Grubb. In the background stalks the ""haunt"" of the barefoot man, perhaps a scab; over it all presides old Mother Dunne, an indomitable woman; and when her son and the wife-with-child of one lack Farjeon are killed, must the vengeance and violence be continued?
Condition: Page ends soiled. Jacket spine head gently rubbed, small tear at spine heal else better than very good in a very good to fine jacket.
