An attractive Folio Society illustrated edition in slipcase of the historical novel by Charles Dickens (1812-1870), first published in weekly installments in his Master Humphrey's Clock journal in 1841. The story is centered around the London Riots of 1780, known as the "Gordon Riots." With black & white drawings by Charles Keeping and an introduction for this edition by Christopher Hibbert. Portions of a publication offering details about this edition are laid in. --- In patterned orange paper-covered boards backed in dark green cloth, with diamond-patterned decorations and titling to spine in gilt; orange topstain. Volume housed in green paper-covered slipcase. --- An about-Near Fine copy: bright and tightly-bound, though with a little foxing to textblock fore-edge & penciled price to front free endpaper. Slipcase with a little rubbing and scratching, else structurally sound. Synopsis

Barnaby Rudge: A Tale of the Riots of Eighty,  commonly known as Barnaby Rudge , is an historical novel by the author Charles Dickens. Barnaby Rudge was one of two novels that Dickens published in his short-lived weekly serial Master Humphrey's Clock, which lasted from 1840 to 1841, when the book was published. It was Dickens' first attempt at an historical novel, his only other being A Tale of Two Cities.
