About This Item
[Chicano] [Photography] Ballis, George. Basta! La Historia de Nuestra Lucha, or Enough! The Tale of Our Struggle. Delano: Farm Workers Press, 1966. First Edition Softcover. 72 pages. Measures 7.5" x 11". Contains roughly 75 black and white images of farmworkers and activists throughout. Ballis was an American photographer and activist who advocated on behalf of migrant farm workers in California, and took tens of thousands of photographs documenting the efforts of César Chávez, the Mexican American labor leader who founded the United Farm Workers. This book is a superb evocation of the early days of the grape strike, and features various emotional portaits of farmworkers in the field, along with portraits of protests, meetings, demonstrations, speakers and key figures in the Chicano rights movement. An introduction for the book is by Cesar Chavez in both English and Spanish, stating: "The faces and the words that you see in this book will give you an idea of where we have been and a glimpse of where we are going. The book is a record of our struggle and our hope and more than this, a picture of the great thing of which we are a part." Staplebound booklet in landscape format illustrated throughout in bilingual text in Spanish and English. In very good condition.
