Adak, Alaska: Intelligence Section Field Force Headquarters, 1943. First Edition. Text was written by Army Corporal Dashiell Hammett and captions by Army Corporal Robert Colodny. Hammett transferred by the Army to the Aleutians in 1943, and while there wrote his history of the Aleutian Campaign against the Japanese. The Aleutian Islands were highly valued by the the Japanese during World War II, hoping to use them to launch attacks to take over Alaska and further attack the west coast of Canada and the USA. Near fine clean copy.

Hammett, who was stationed in the Aleutians Islands was assigned to help compile an accounting of the Aleutian Campaign under supervision of the Intelligence Section.
