Housed in custom black morocco-backed clamshell case. Light shelf-wear, chipping to head and foot of dustwrapper spine, long closed vertical tear to upper panel. Bookplate of Maxwell Steinhardt to FEP. With a loosely inserted typed note on Chartwell letterhead: 'With Mr. Churchill'c [sic] compliments'. A crisp copy of the first edition of the first volume of Churchill's collected wartime speeches spanning May 1938 to November 1940, from the height of appeasement and his political isolation, through the first six months of his premiership. . First edition. 8vo.
