The text is is illustrated with black-and-white drawings and battle plans which have been drawn by W. F. N. Watson. The text is also illustrated with black-and-white reproductions of contemporary illustrations and black and white photographs. Illustrated paperback binding with peach and white coloured titles to the front panel and yellow and white coloured titles to the back strip. This is omnibus volume (of two single volumes) dealing with battles within the borders of England. There is a narrative account of the main battles, the historical background is given, detailed battle plans are present, the analysis of the commanders; and, shows the many changes of tactics and weapons. This volume deals with the years 1066 through to 1746.
