Paris, J Dumaine, 1855. 1st Edition. 488 pages. Near fine half leather binding with marbled boards. Numerous engravings of battles, ships, costumes. in black and white, in the text. Plans and maps in black and white, in the text. Drawings by Mr Barbier, Roux. Prints by Belhatte. Rare signature of the author - inscribed to a Mr Patterson, 1889 on the half title page. French text. �douard Bou�t (1808-1871), become Bou�t-Willaumez after his adoption in 1844 by Admiral Willaumez County. But it is simply the best-known: the book provides an insight of naval battles of the period, and devotes some part to the operations of the then recent Crimean War in which he had participated - the bombing of Odessa and Sevastopol. Scarce signature.
