Bumped spine heel, as in pix 1. . Pastedowns, eps & all three text block edges white as new. When stood on spine book stays closed, a sign book read with care, if at all. Shute (a pen name) was an aeronautical engineer who titled his autobio "SLIDE RULE". He used a pen name because he thought his boss wouldn't take seriously an engineer who was also a writer. He wrote of decent people coping with difficult times, many in the WWII era. .
