Inscribed by the author to his wife on the front flyleaf: "For Frances, with Love, Nevil, June 1957" and signed on the title page with his full name Nevil Shute Norway. Additionally, Fred Astaire, who played nuclear scientist Julian Osborne in the film, has signed the flyleaf below. Men at Work 20.2.a
