About This Item

Ventura, CA: Phantom Bookshop, 2011. This facsimile dust jackets will never be mass produced, as they are labor intensive to make. I sell no more than 15-20 of this title per year, if even that. I am primarily an artist and treat the project of reconstructing these jackets as works of art. I have received many words of praise about my jacket work. A rendered facsimile dust jacket for the 1922 first edition book of The Beautiful and Damned. The jacket was rendered by artist John Anthony Miller and archival ink and special paper were used. Jacket comes trimmed and enclosed in a Mylar jacket protector, ready to put on the book. Please see the photograph. The jacket has the artist's monogram at the bottom of the rear jacket flap, has the words "Facsimile dust jacket" on the edge of the rear jacket flap, tastefully placed, and has a signed label affixed to the verso of the jacket signed by the artist stating that this is a facsimile dust jacket..

Synopsis

First published in 1922, The Beautiful and the Damned followed Fitzgerald's impeccable debut, This Side of Paradise , thus securing his place in the tradition of great American novelists. Embellished with the author's lyrical prose, here is the story of Harvard-educated, aspiring aesthete Anthony Patch and his beautiful wife, Gloria. As they await the inheritance of his grandfather's fortune, their reckless marriage sways under the influence of alcohol and avarice. A devastating look at the nouveau riche, and the New York nightlife, as well as the ruinous effects of wild ambition, The Beautiful and the Damned achieved stature as one of Fitzgerald's most accomplished novels. Its distinction as a classic endures to this day.
