Harper & Brothers, 1880, 1880. 1st ed. Not a first printing as there is no date on the title page. Probably a "second state". Has all the other points for a first edition: "be-became" misprint on page 11 lines 37-38. Short 6 word dedication in 2 lines: "To the wife of my youth" & page count 552p + 12p ads. Hard to say what color it is: somewhat green pebbled cloth with slightly beveled free edges. Gilt lettering on spine but no other decorations. Missing about 1/4 inch of cloth on the spine bottom & Worn at top also. Rubbed front & back. Rear hinge cracked. Page edges slightly water stained on the side margin. Owner's inscription in pencil dated 1881in Hartford. A Fair Copy. 1st. Hardcover. Fair.
