About This Item
Illustrated. 4to , original printed wraps, chips with losses to spine, occasional light spotting but on the whole very good.
Interesting articles including "The Mission of Messrs. Vansittart and Hasting to Mir Qasim"; "Events Leading to the Ambela Expedition-1863"; "Glimpses of Serampore (1810-20); "An Unpublished Letter of Major James Rennell dated Bengall, August 31, 1795" etc.
The Calcutta Historical Society was founded in 1907 by Walter K. Firmiger as the editor. They published Bengal Past & Present, a quarterly periodical in the same year and it remained in print until 2012. Although it began as a British Colonial nostalgic look at Calcutta, it eventually evolved into a serious scholarly work with submissions from leading historians and politicians of the day. An uncommon publication
