Top edge gilt, fore and bottom edge untrimmed. Internally bright and clean, with a gift inscription 'Lizzie from Evelyn Xmas 1914' to the front marbled endpaper. Wraps a little worn and faded, and the spine sunned. A charming collection of 'Bensoniana' - quotes from his extensive body of work to date, in a luxury reverse calf binding E. F. Benson (1867-1940) was an extremely prolific English writer, completing over fifty novels, four novel series, short stories, plays, biographies, and other non-fiction works on subjects as varied as golf and grave digging. VERY GOOD. 16mo., with the DJ, Two title-pages, the first with title, author, publisher and date within a garlanded frame, reproduced on front wrapper. The second has title in red lettering. Illustrated with four engraved sepia-toned plates in the classical style, depicting mainly pastoral scenes, the first one with the signatures of the eightennth-century artists C. P. Marilllier, and E[mmanuel] de Ghendt. The charming end-plate, also with Marillier's signature, depicts a bird on a branch suspending a basket of flowers.

Additionally stamped 'Siegle, Hill & Co' on the label, and 'Persian' added in manuscript. Repaired case a little worn and chipped with some fading, though label remains bright. Two title pages, with one engraved and one printed with title in red. Rubbing to all sides of spine as well as boards and extremities. Some wear to corners. Binding signed "Morrell. Binder. London". Offsetting to edges of endpapers from leather turn-ins. Interior clean aside from a small penciled notation verso of front free endpaper. Binding firm. This uncommon collection of quotes from the works of E.F. Benson has been handsomely bound by the firm of William Turner Morrell in London. In addition to being signed by the binder, the book is also signed on the rear board for the Charles E. Lauriat Company of Boston.
